Jenny has been coming to HEAT for close to  three years now. Not only has she seen improvements in her workouts, she looks AMAZING! Here's her HEAT transformation story...

How long have you been part of the HEAT familia?

My husband Anton first went to a HEAT boot camp on a “bring a friend for free day” about three years ago when it was still located at Riverside and S. 1st. He loved it, and, a few weeks later, HEAT moved to its current location which at the time was two blocks from our house. It was meant to be! I visited with him a time or two, but didn’t get serious about my fitness until about a year and a half ago when I joined.

What made you choose HEAT?

Even though I’ve worked out in some capacity since I was a teenager, I’ve never belonged to a boot camp until HEAT. Once I got used to the format, I fell in love with it. The trainers are absolutely amazing — a perfect blend of kick-your-butt motivation and positive reinforcement. The variety of the workouts, the inspiration, the great people and the social aspect of HEAT have made me a die-hard fan.

What were your main goals when you started?

Initially, to get leaner, burn fat and tone up.

What changes have you noticed?

I am much leaner and more muscular. I’m faster and definitely stronger. One of my recent goals has been to do unassisted pull-ups and I’m finally there!

What is your favorite camp and why?

Geez, that’s like asking me to pick my favorite kid! I love them all and the trainers all have different styles and I like them all for different reasons! I’ll always have a soft spot for Greg’s Saturday 10:15 a.m. full body class because that’s the one I started with, and for a while that was my only weekly boot camp. I supplemented during the week with Body Pump and other classes at the Y while I was building up my fitness level. I love Greg’s athletic and competitive focus and his camps are always killer. My other standard go-to is Wednesday night’s full body with Cody “O.C.” Richardson. Cody is so incredibly encouraging and his workouts are always fun. I enjoy Greg’s Tuesday/Thursday Tabata classes – getting it done hard and fast is how I like it! But I also love taking classes with Sarah, Joey, Nancy and Rick! It all depends on my weekly schedule where I end up but they’re all great.

What are you current fitness goals?

To keep getting stronger and faster and build more muscle. And abs like Joey.

What is your favorite thing about HEAT?

I love the camaraderie among the campers and the trainers and I love that I’m constantly pushed and challenged. We all need that!

TELL US MORE!

"I’ve always been active. I was an athlete in high school, cheered in college and was a cheerleading coach in my early 20s. I’ve always had some type of workout routine, though its frequency and intensity definitely ebbed and flowed over the years.
In 2012, I began my current job which is fairly demanding and intense and in the first year and a half I gained about 15 pounds. I have never had a weight problem and always been naturally slender, but I’ve also always been active. Fewer workouts and opting for convenient but unhealthy food choices took their toll.

In March 2014, two weeks before my 43rd birthday, I had an epiphany. I was not going to continue on the downward slide to middle-aged bloat. I radically changed my diet overnight. I quit drinking Coke (which I loved with a passion) cold turkey. I cut out most starches and began an essentially paleo diet. I learned to treat yogurt with blueberries as an indulgent treat and to enjoy Honeycrisp apples like they were a Gourdough’s donut. I amped up my workouts too. I belonged to the Town Lake YMCA at the time, and took Body Pump, CX Works and Turbo Kick classes. As the weight started to fall off, I discovered I enjoyed running again.

And as my fitness level increased, my husband Anton, already a HEAT camper, talked me into coming along with him. I lost that first 15 pounds in a couple of months, but the weight continued to come off. Ultimately, I lost a total of 30 pounds in about four months and now weigh what I did in high school. To a 44-year-old woman, that feels pretty dang good.

My job is still just as demanding, but I find if you prioritize your health, you can fit it all in. I have a white board in my office and every Monday I look at my work calendar and my kids’ calendars (I have two!) and figure out how to fit in either a boot camp or a run every day. I aim for four boot camps and three runs a week, but the ratio shifts depending on both my schedule and how my body’s feeling. Sometimes I do five boot camps a week, sometimes three.
If I have to miss a day, I don’t beat myself up. I just get up and go the next day. I was hardcore strict on diet until I lost the weight, but now allow myself treats. I try to keep those to the weekend.

Getting into shape, particularly at this point in my life, was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m proud of my gains and my determination to change the way I approach both food and exercise and I’m incredibly grateful to the phenomenal trainers at HEAT for being my guides and coaches through the transformation!"
