Support Our Troops

 I am sure we all know someone who is actively serving in the military or is a former active member of the military. We are very fortunate to have individuals who give of themselves so we all can enjoy the freedoms that our nation provides us. Let us not forget that these individuals need our active support and deserve our appreciation. Soldier's Angels is a non-profit organization that gives aid/comfort to men and women serving our nation. If you would like to show your support, check out their site and the various programs of which you can participate.

Funny Story ... For my 50th birthday, my husband bought me personal training sessions ...

{Funny Stories}

Although I am still in great shape since playing on my high school softball team, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer I'll call Bruce, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started. The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

Monday: Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Bruce waiting for me. He is something of a Greek God -- with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo hoo!! Bruce gave me a tour and showed me the machines. He took my pulse after five minutes on the treadmill. He was alarmed that my pulse was so fast, but I attribute it to standing next to him in his Lycra aerobic outfit. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring. Bruce was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!

Tuesday: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Bruce made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air -- then he put weights on it! Read the rest.

It's hot! Is water enough?

clock August 10, 2009 16:35 by author codybutler

Addiction to water ... Oh, the personal trainer's dream!!! I am asked all the time, "How much water should I be drinking"? Well, studies show that not everyone needs the same amount. Think about it.  Would someone who weighs 100 lbs and someone who weighs 200 lbs need the same amount? NO! So, throw out the "drink 96oz of water a day" mantra and turn to a personalized formula.

Body Weight/2 = ideal water consumption

Is this enough? NO again! Especially during the hot Texas heat, your body needs more than just water. When sweating during your workouts, your body needs to be replenished with sodium, potassium, and sugar. And I don’t mean eat a banana and have a lollipop! Clean sports drinks are the way to go. You should be consuming 15-20 oz of a sports drink during each of your workouts. I would recommend GU2, nooner, and -- if all else fails -- G2 (Gatorade 2). However, the G2 does contain high-fructose corn syrup, but it's much better than the old formula. So drink up!
