Saturday, Feb. 20 Workout -- HEAT Olympics

clock February 19, 2010 17:26 by author codybutler

After a week of sitting in front of my TV watching the Olympic Games, I'm tempted to buy a full-body spandex suite and pick up speed skating. However, this may take some time. In the interim, I figured we would create our very own HEAT Olympics!

As rules and regulations are so important at the Olympic level, I felt it would be vital to let you know ahead of time the outline of the games. (Besides, I'm known for making up rules as I go and confusing everyone.) Although I encourage friendly competition, this is your own fitness journey, and the games will reflect that concept.

HEAT OLYMPICS:

·        Athletes (YOU) will be given a list of 8-10 drills that you are familiar with from camp.  Drills will be categorized based on difficulty level. Each difficultly level will be assigned a multiplier. How many reps you complete of that drill are up to you -- and, upon completion, you will take that rep count and multiply it by the designated multiplier.

o    For example: Push ups are worth a multiplier of x 1. If you complete 75 pushups, you receive a score of 75. Burpees are worth a multiplier of x 2. If you complete 40 burpees, you will receive a score of 80. (Multipliers will be either .05, 1, 2, 3 or -- for most difficult -- 4.)

·        The goal is to burn out on each drill you select. Once you have completed a drill, you will be scored and move to the next drill. Again, there will be 8-10 drills to select from. You may revisit a drill and try to score higher. The highest of the two scores will be added to the board (not added together -- just like in downhill snowboarding).

·        You will have approximately 45 minutes to complete as many drills and reps as possible in good form. If the judges rule that your form and technique are off, you will be given a warning. If no improvement is made, a 1-minute time-out penalty will be assigned.

Due to the nature of the games, our workout will take place both inside and outside the Annex. Prizes will be given to for Gold, Silver and Bronze. All competitors will leave with a gift bag, and first place will receive a spa deal worth $50 at EOS.

Please arrive on time -- 10 a.m. at the Annex. Remember, a true athlete would never be late to the Olympics. See you at the games!
