"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" ... my all-time favorite holiday show. The evil Mr. Grinch robs the Whos of all their Christmas gifts, because he believes it will make them miserable like him. Instead, the residents of Whoville still celebrate Christmas, despite their gifts being stolen. The Grinch discovers Christmas is not about getting stuff but about the spirit of giving and goodwill to men. What a powerful message. I can't help but think how this fits into our journey of life.
Let's imagine we all have the determination and character of a Who. If we were stripped of our luxuries, belongings and appearance, we would still be "who" we are, still thrive, still prosper in our own unique way. As you make the transformation from poor phsyical health to optimal health, it is important to remember who you are inside. The way I see it, society plays the evil Mr. Grinch. Rather than being stripped of belongings or self image, we're constantly reminded of what we don't have but should. Turn on the tube and there isn't one TV show or product that tells you otherwise. Think about it. What is the first thing we do when we buy something expensive? We show it off. Why? Because we need to be accepted. We buy things or look a certain way to have others accept us. Embrace your individuality and place more importance on your unique qualities; I bet your journey will have a little less societal pressure.
**HOMEWORK** = 1/2 point (due by Saturday morning)
List the three qualities you like most about yourself OR the qualities you have a hard time showing to others. Go ahead and brag - this is 100% confidential between you and I. There will be notecards at the studio by the check-in counter. Simply write down your qualities, fold up the card, and place it in your stocking (not your panty hose - the actual Christmas stockings hanging from the fireplace).
