For a long time, it's been "common sense" that lifting heavy weights makes you bulk up. But, as I've been telling many of you for awhile now, that's not always the case. People who are interested in toning and slimming down often shy away from upping their weight, but scientific studies are pointing to new evidence that suggests it could help you lose more.

 

Bulking up requires not just heavy weights but also upping your calorie consumption -- we're talking far more than the 2,000 daily calories recommended for most adults. For those interested in firming, the ideal weight-training plan includes a combination of challenging weights (as much as 70%-80% of your max ability) with fewer repetitions. As proof, in a study published last year, scientists who followed 122 women for six years found that those who were assigned to do resistance exercises three times a week at this level lost the most weight and body fat. {Read the rest}
