Stop blaming your parents and get on the treadmill!

European researchers studying the "fat gene" have found that physical activity can outweigh genetics in teens. According to several recent studies, the negative effects of the FTO gene (which indicates a genetic predisposition for weight gain and obesity) actually "disappeared" for adolescents who exercised regularly.

So what does this mean if you're not an overweight teen (anymore)? While these studies focused only on kids, the results are good news for anyone who feels like their genes are keeping them from getting in shape. As one commentator said, "Biology isn't necessarily destiny," which means that hard work (1 hour of moderate to vigorous exercise per day, in this case) can triumph over Mother Nature. {Read the rest}
