It's that time of year again x 4. This year, it is estimated that 75% of the population will contract the regular flu or H1N1 virus.  Yes, you may have gotten your shot(s), but that doesn't mean you're immune to the other viruses that might knock you out during the winter months.  So now that I have set in with the doom and gloom, let me give you some simple safety precautions that can go a long way.

  1. Wash your hands regularly (not just after you  pee -- all day long)
  2. Use disinfectant on everything (OK, maybe hand wipes will be sufficient)
  3. Bring your own towel and yoga mat with you to the gym
  4. When someone coughs, cover your mouth :)
  5. Add vitamin C to your daily intake to help pump up your immune system
  6. Let those nose  hairs grow just a little longer -- they're your first line of defense against germs
  7. Drink LOTS of water
  8. Drink less alcohol (it lowers your body's natural defense system)
  9. Eat well (and I don't mean in abundance)
  10. If you've read my advice too late and you're already sick: Wipe down the keyboard, get in bed and stay away from gyms and public places for at least 48 hours after your symptoms are gone. DO NOT TRY TO WORK OUT IF YOU'RE FEELING BAD. Stay out of the gym for a few days afterward to prevent a relapse.
